Introducing the Summa Secure Send™ Mobile Framework
February 6th, 2013 Rick Kotermanski, Chief Technology Officer (email the author)
I won’t start my blog post off by repeating mind-blowing statistics about the growth and impact that mobile devices and applications have on how we live, work and play. Instead, in this post I’ll jump straight to discussing a specific challenge in mobile application development that Summa has worked to address.
Healthcare and financial services companies demand reliable, secure, integrated, audited, and flexible access to data and messaging; this is especially true for mobile applications in these industries. Mobile applications have evolved from entertainment to lightweight workplace tools to essential applications that extend the reach of mission critical business applications to mobile users. To meet more complex needs, we believe that the design and approach to developing, deploying and managing the applications must mature. Building applications that provide these service levels from scratch and on top of your existing web application infrastructure is risky and expensive. With this framework, Summa’s leverages our capabilities and expertise in building mobile along with IBM middleware and our core strength in architecting, designing and developing the most robust and secure enterprise applications.
The Summa Secure Send Mobile Framework combines Summa developed software components and integration patterns with commercial mobile and proven integration middleware from IBM. It supports native iOS and Android Applications along with Hybrid applications based on HTML5/CSS3/Javascript and the Phonegap runtime supplied by IBM Worklight. Secure and reliable messages are delivered over the open source MQTT transport and managed through IBM WebSphere Message Broker runtime. IBM Worklight provides the mobile application development, management and security for the Mobile Framework.
Stay tuned for more details about the Secure Send Mobile Framework. Future posts in this series will outline an application of the framework in Healthcare and the use of Decision Management and BPM to externalize management of message routing decisions. More information is also available on our web site.
