May 7th, 2011 Chuck Nagy, Consultant (email the author)
IBM just announced the release of the WebSphere Message Broker Connectivity Pack for Healthcare 7.0. This is a separately purchased offering allowing developers to augment the functionality provided within the WebSphere Message Broker base product, through specific content applicable within the healthcare customers like hospitals and insurance providers.
As a distinct IBM Authorized Business Partner for the Healthcare Industry, Summa was selected to participate in the Beta Program for this product.
I have been able to evaluate a number of the software assets provided as part of the IBM Healthcare Enterprise Service Bus. IBM continues to impress me with their commitment to deliver new functionality and timely product enhancements to address the integration requirements of the Healthcare Industry.
IBM WebSphere Message Broker Connectivity Pack for Healthcare provides the following features:
- Out-of-the-box pattern-based approach to speed integration of common HL7 information flows within WebSphere Message Broker.
- Extensive message logging and reporting to allow operational management of HIS applications.
- Two new Healthcare nodes, GenericHL7Input and GenericHL7Output, which support the MLLP protocol along with optional duplicate message checking.
- A new Healthcare Operational monitoring view within WebSphere Message Broker Explorer to identify and rectify any connectivity and queue problems between HL7 Interfaces.
- The HL7v25P message set can be used to process any valid HL7 segment that is defined in HL7 version 2.5.1 or earlier and includes support for a canonical XML format.
- Requires MQ version 7.0.1 and Message Broker version 7.0.0.2 running on Windows (x86, x86-64) or Linux on Intel (x86, x86-64).
The following diagram shows how IBM WebSphere Message Broker Connectivity Pack for Healthcare can connect a wide variety of healthcare systems, including medical devices, clinical applications, device gateways, billing systems, and health information exchanges.
